The song is Interpol: Untitled – This movie is really amazing – catch a show in your area when you can.

Anyone know the name of the song at the end of this vid?

Well, if that if how you see it, we did have a vote on it. I voted against prop 4 (which thank God, failed) because it would have effected the entire industry. The words “pebble mine” were not in the initiative so it was another one of many dishonest fights by these annoying statists that want to turn Alaska into the San Francisco of the north.

  4. bernerl says:

The point of the post was not that Alaskan workers will not receive some share of the revenue generated by the mine. Obviously they will. The post was challenging previous statements that “anti-development sentiments are anti-Alaskan” and that outsider conversationalists are meddling in our state politics. My point is that many people in Alaska also oppose the development and that the Canadian and British firms that seek to develop the mine don’t necessarily have our interests in mind.

  5. bernerl says:

I have not seen the article in the Daily News Miner, though would be happy to take a look at it if you send a link.

  6. Americaisgreat123 says:

@bernerl – BP is British, yet Alaska reaps tons of money from their employees on the slope. Don’t think about economics as a zero-sum game.

Did you ever see the Fairbanks Daily News Miner column about Pebble Mine a month or two ago? If not, I could see if I could send it to you.

  7. bernerl says:

As someone who has been born and raised in Alaska, I would have to challenge the ridiculous statement that “anti-development sentiments are anti-Alaskan.” Such blanket statements show a lack of understanding about the complexity of modern development and the trade-offs that results from such activities. Oh ya, and speaking of propaganda from outsiders, Pebble Mine developers are actually Canadian (Northern Dynasty Minerals Ltd.) and British (Anglo American) firms. Wonder where the $ will go?

  8. bernerl says:

Really? You can not actually be serious that open pit mining doesn’t impact water quality. What happens when the overburden washes into the rivers, clouding the water with suspended sediments and choking out fish? What happens when the inevitable acid mine drainage seeps into the river? Let us at least be honest about the potential benefits and trade offs of having a mine located in a salmon-rich watershed.

  9. DangleCity says:

Hey NEWPOINTMAN, The thing isnt that we dont want a mine…..just not there. Practice your “SAFE MINING” elsewhere.

  10. Taranau says:

The fishing contributes to the economy.Local and national. The mine will benefit only the mining company and it’s shareholders. Those who grub gold and money do not contribute much at all to the economy.

  11. Taranau says:

You don’t sound very well educated.Did you get your engineering degree online?

  12. Lucaslouser7 says:

I’m awful at fishing. This movie made me want to go fish in Alaska.

WELCOME TO WHAT WILL BE CALLED THE LARGEST ECOLOGICAL DISASTER IN MODERN HISTORY!!!!!!! This Pebble MIne makes me sick, and sad to be a human being, everyone needs to see just how beautiful this area is…. absolutely precious….. Fucking money man, people will sell their sole for fucking stupid money.

  14. bop98png says:

I would be interested to hear what mining engineers know about freshwater ecology and habitat structure.

  15. newpointman says:

Look, I’m a mining engineer in Colorado and I can honestlly say these people are retarded. The random guy in the video saying that open pit mines ruin water sources is a freakin retard. If you actually study mining engineering, like myself, you realize that these people honestlly have no idea what they are talking about. The only way this crap is actually passed on is by random tree huggers who want to push their agenda. I challenge anyone who believes this crap to talk to the professionals!

  16. Americaisgreat123 says:

I am open to the debate on a prospective Pebble Mine, but this video does not satisfy that. This video plays off pure emotion with no intelligent rebuttal to the proponents or even defense of the opposition. We should keep in mind when listening to such propaganda, often from outsiders, that anti-development sentiments are anti-Alaskan.

The failed ballot measure 4 had no mention of Pebble Mine. It applied to mines universally. It was an environmentalist-wacko fraud. One of many.

  17. ClearCut83 says:

Great trailer. I received permission from Felt Soul to post the trailer in HD on my channel. We need more voices!

  18. JeffKolakowski says:

For the people who want different economic opportunities, move some where else. There are plenty of cess pools in the lower 48 they can move to. Why do they want to make such a beautiful area just another one of those.

  19. OceanFilmFestival says:

Catch this film on the big screen at the 6th San Francisco Ocean Film Festival, February 19-22,2009! More info at oceanfilmfest[dot]org.

  20. eatlikehobbit says:

    2:36-2:51 >> quote for life!
2:52-3:00 >> most beautiful scene ever on a film!

  21. LeviHunt says:

Fuck Pebble Mine! This mine can’t happen… Too many lives depend on it.

  22. ktnlg says:

I have seen the trailer and had the chance to see the entire film. It was moving and I am 100% sure pebble mine needs to go away!

  23. redsalmo76 says:

The test drilling (without permits I might add) is already doing enough damage.

google ak trecking and find the test site photos, see for yourself, and extrapolate..

Vote YES on Ballot Measure 4

  24. Alaskrab says:

As a commercial fisherman in Bristol Bay, I can’t believe that any Alaskan would ever think about jeopardizing the fishery out here. We have to say NO! Northern Dynasty is a corporate juggernaut, and they’ve lied, cheated, and paid off a lot of people just to get to their current place in the Pebble Project. We have to draw the line somewhere. Please raise your voice.
