….. I dont know what is wrong with your fish, but here is a good website that i use to see what is wrong with my betta. One thing you left out was the temp. what is the temp like? it might not matter it that is the cause or not, but they should be kept farly warm. But any how, My personal opinon is that he could have something internal wrong with him….. But i’m not a fish doc. good luck!!

Go buy a water testing kit, until you eliminate the water as a factor you can’t move on to find out what else it might be…

Don’t waste your money buying a water testing kit for a vase/container that small. That size, you should be doing water changes every day to every other day at the max. Also, I believe they prefer a bit warmer temperature then what he’s probably at now. If I were you, I’d get a bigger tank, at least 2 gallons. Do away with the pebbles, they’re just going to trap the poop/food in there, and I don’t have a clue how you’d siphon that out. Try doing those and see if he perks up any.

Lethergy is too general of a symptom to be diagnostic. Here’s what I suggest you do…
    1. Change the water. 100%
    2. If there is a plant in that vase get it or the betta its own vase…one them needs to move.
    3. Go get a fish antibiotic such as tetracycline. great stuff I love it. Treat him according to the package as a measure against bacterial infection.
    4. Describe all of his symptoms…new coloring? new spots? what color are the new spots? flat? loosing color? can you get him to eat at? What type of pebbles? what type of water? (bottled, well, tap, treated tap, etc)
    5. DO NOT change his water every day. every other day at most. He is probably already stressed enough.
    6. Move the food around with a pair of dull tweezers to encourage him to eat.
    7. Clean the pebbles with hot hot water.

You need to do large water changes every other day when you keep a betta in a bowl. The ammonia will rapidly build up. I’d get a filtration system if you want him healthy.

he may not be sick, i once had a betta like this then his tank broke so we got him a new one, and he seemed to like to swim around it. i had pebbles, but when i got the new tank i got the plastic rocks that were about quater of an inch round. bettas tend to do better if there tank has a background. another solution, we used to keep my betta in my room but when i was at my other parents house he would be all by himself, we moved him out into the kitchen and he seemed to like the activity better. if you just got him, they might of fed him a different brand of food at the store and bettas can be picky about their food. so i suggest maybe trying a diffenet shaped tank and surroundings or where you have the tank. a 1/2 gallon tank is aboutthe right size.

hope that this helped! And that he gets bettter!
